We know that economies affect the environment, and vice versa, through ecosystem services. Yet, few global analyses succeed at describing these linkages while retaining both economic detail and high-resolution ecosystem service provision. This session describes a series of projects that have successfully linked biophysical and economic models at global scales and presents a recent project that links the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) with InVEST. Dr. Thomas Hertel, founder of GTAP, will give the main talk in this session, describing several of these projects and presenting new results from the GTAP-InVEST model. Dr. Hertel will then be joined by four discussants, Steven Polasky, Justin Johnson, Dan Brown and Becky Chaplin-Kramer, each of whom will reflect briefly on the topic and then engage in discussion with Dr. Hertel and the audience.
